Video

Video is a term generally used to describe artwork using still and/or moving images and sound as the main medium for artistic pratice, which emerged in the 1960s and became popular in the world during the 1970s.

Video was introduced to Vietnam since the early 1990s and quickly became one of the earliest contemporary art form practiced by local artists. Among the first Vietnamese artists who pracitce Video include: Trần Lương, Trương Tân, Nguyễn Minh Phước, notably Jun Nguyen Hasushiba with his Video work "Memorial Project Nha Trang, Vietnam: Towards the Complex—For the Courageous, the Curious, and the Cowards", 2001, exhibited at the Yokohama Triennale 2003, Japan.

Along with the development of technology, digital platforms and the internet, Video remains one of the most popular practices among Vietnamese contemporary artists. Video has many variations in term of practice and display: traditional presentation, Video Installation, part of an Installation, or of Theater, or Musical works, integrating into other art form to form Multimedia Art. There are many Video works of Vietnamese artists featured in many prestigious exhibitions, art festivals and events around the world today. Video works "The Rice Man", "Lập Lòe" by Trần Lương and "Memorial Project for Vietnam II" by Jun Nguyen Hasushiba are featured in the permanent art collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, USA). Among Video artists with outsdanding achievements can be named to date are: Trần Lương, Nguyễn Trinh Thi, Dinh Q. Lê, Jun Nguyễn Hasushiba, Phan Thảo Nguyên, Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn, The Propeller Group, Nguyễn Phương Linh, etc.
